Jogbo
JOGBO is an electrifying tale of a Nigerian Woman Imperialist and feminist; Fumilayo Ransome Kuti who founded the Abeokuta Women Union (AWU), uniting the working class, market women and middle women. In unison, they struggled for the independence of Nigeria and the empowerment of Nigerian women to vote, be educated and involved in the system. AWU was victorious in colonial Nigeria such that the women continued to advocate for their women’s rights in Nigeria and play a role in Nigerian nationalist movement. With furious choreography which depicts the women’s grievances. Jogbo is an intriguing play to watch out for. It was commissioned by the Netherlands Embassy, which supports initiatives for further sensitization in Nigeria. Jogbo was first performed at Freedom Park, 1 broad street, Lagos Island on the 19th and 20th of January 2019.
