Joshua Alabi

CEO/CREATIVE DIRECTOR

Joshua Alabi is the Founder and Creative Director of Kininso Koncepts Production. He is a versatile director, writer, producer, teacher and consultant.  He excels in socially engaged theatre (dealing with themes of climate, gender studies, health and wellbeing, GBV, Youth, migration, etc), filmmaking and cultural innovation. A Prize recipient for ‘Kolofu’ at the 2023 Kuss Festival, in Germany. He received the Mervin Stutter Award in 2014 at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, UK.

As a multi–award winning storyteller, he creatively narrates African stories using strategy, design and media in the theatre. He pioneered Africa’s First Digital/Mixed Reality theater project, reaching audiences across The Netherlands and Denmark and his innovative work earned the Golden Calf Awards for Best Digital Culture at the Netherlands Film Festival 2023.  He directed one of Nigeria’s biggest musical project ‘Queen Moremi’ for House of Oduduwa and Ooni of Ife and directed the short film “Undersight” for Paradigm initiative: a social enterprise that advocates for digital rights and inclusion in Africa. He also created and directed “Imagination TV” with Junges Schauspiel, Dusseldorf  (Dhaus) in Germany inspired by Chimamanda Adichie’s speech “Dangers of a Single Story” and the film “Beast of No Nation”.

Joshua was selected among several young global storytellers to train at the Catalyst Story Institute and join the HBO, Jada and Will Smith Foundation and US Department of State-Innovation Centre Funded project further expanding his international reach. He is also the Producer/Founder of KIFT- Kininso International Festival of Theatre, the foremost and largest International Children’s Theatre Festival in Nigeria. He revitalized the African Festival Network; a platform to connect festival makers from all part of Africa & diaspora to focus on influencing seamless policies that establish stronger collaborations and access to funding.

As a consultant and creative enterprise professional, he has a wide range of experience in developing strategies and projects that boost the creative economy through capacity building in creative, technical and business endeavors. This increased his experience working with local and international government, non-government and corporate organizations. Joshua believes in the power of storytelling, using culture, art, trends, mythology and research to making statement of relevance, change perception, challenge status-quo.  He wishes to inspire greatness through telling Nigerian and African stories to the world. He has collaborated internationally, spanning the UK, Netherlands, South Africa, Turkey, Cameroon, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Spain, Germany, Angola, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Rwanda etc amidst several connections, Joshua is a 2024 Global Fellow of the International Society of Performing Arts, New York.
